Event and Wedding Calligraphy Style Examples
Delfont Ink has a selection of beautiful calligraphy styles I know will work for your hand lettered commission so please do have a look at the range of styles below to get inspired. From delicate scripts to bold letters, there’s a style for every occasion. Whether you’re looking for wedding calligraphy, placecards for your Gala dinner or a beautiful hand-lettered poetry commission, these calligraphy styles will add a touch of sophistication and elegance to your stationery.
The Flourished Traditional Style
A gracefully flowing, traditional, flourished calligraphy style, with more than a nod to the formal Copperplate family of scripts. Perfect for more formal occasions and very popular for weddings. The flourishes intentionally loop and overlap each other, carefully creating a balanced design. Stunning in a strong black or sepia ink.
The Classic Style
This uncluttered formal style is a relaxed Copperplate style of calligraphy, and is the pared back version of the Flourished Traditional calligraphy style shown above. It is perfect for weddings or awards ceremonies. Its ordered sleek lines can only add to the dignity of an occasion .
The Romantic Style
The newest style in the Delfont Ink stable, this is an elegant style of modern calligraphy executed with a light whimsical touch. It’s extended letters add fluidity but also mean the names fill a placecard beautifully over two lines. Excellent for weddings.
The Slanted Modern Style
The signature Delfont Ink style of modern calligraphy and one I often use in while engraving. A flowing, slanted lettering style of lettering. More contemporary in appearance than the copperplate style due to the relaxed and fluid connections between the letters. Shown here in a bold black ink on pristine white.
The Upright Modern Style
An angular, bold calligraphy style for a contemporary, playful result. Often requested for poetry commissions and placecards due to its modern simplicity and where a compact, space saving style is preferred. A couple of examples of this style in action can be found in the gallery on my Calligraphy Commissions page.
The Understated Elegant Style
An upright, delicate style of calligraphy designed to be elegant in its simplicity, this is exceptionally popular for birthday celebrations, Christenings, Christmas cards and gift tags where a more formal copperplate calligraphy style might feel too formal. I formed the Understated Elegant Style after a number of clients asked me for a type of lettering closer to “fancy handwriting”. Its clean lines make this an in-demand choice for handwritten personal notes when a fresh, modern and relaxed style feels more appropriate for the occasion.
The Casual Modern Style
This is a bold modern calligraphy style of lettering to suit a more flamboyant occasion. Shown here in a restrained black on white, but would look wonderful in gold ink on black card, white ink on navy blue, or, as with any of my lettering styles, any combination to suit your colour scheme.
